I guess this should go here.

I'm currently (and for the last 12 years or so) on disability, due to various issues. However, now that I am finally starting to get somewhere with support needs, and have a stable permanent home, I am looking at returning to education.

Given I struggle with learning, I am starting with a variety of free courses with OpenLearn in order to try to establish some sort of way that I can learn effectively. I dropped out of college three times and did not do well in school because there was simply not the support available, and still isn't now that I am older, but with these courses they are generally fairly short, I can study at my own pace with no time limit (I will set myself suitable goals to see how I get on), and I am hoping to eventually have them lead on to more advanced courses.

I have taught myself a lot of stuff over the years (primarily to do with Office, etc), all of which is stuff to help me develop my created universe. There is a lot of extensive work and effort put into them, so I am hoping that I might find some courses once I am ready to move to other things to build on some of the stuff I already know or work with.

I have in the past done various lower/mid management roles, but never had the qualifications, it was always through simply my work ethic.

I have tried schedules, and alarms, and all variety of things, but never seem to get anywhere with them, but I am currently being assessed for a social worker, and if that is successful then they would be able to nudge me each time they visit, or each week, to just remind me to do some of the studying, and hopefully I can just get into the routine of doing a few hours or so a week, and build up as I go.

I managed to create a budgeting workbook to manage my finances in 2023, and now I am half way through the 2024 one and have not fallen out of that, but I do love spreadsheets as it is what my created universe is largely based on too. But at least it is good that I have managed to stick with that when most other things seem to not last long.

I am hoping to eventually find some sort of work I can do from home, working for a charity or something like that.

Another point in your favor is that you're older now.  That tends to help regarding work ethic.  I see the difference between my older students and my 18-22 year old college students.

@AspieAlly613 With some exceptions, I often found similar between the different age groups when I was supervising/managing teams back then.

The biggest issue is really just trying to find a method I can work with for learning, as I struggle with reading due to concentration mostly, but if I'm learning from home, like with stuff I learn with Office, I watch videos, and I will do it as I watch, and that helps me to learn it.

So hopefully, I'll be able to do it that way, and make some headway with it.

There are a lot of things I struggle with, but usually if it is something I can get passionate about, then I just keep at it until I figure it out, so I am positive that I will do so with the online learning.
